Marian Prayers

  • Prayer of Protection to the Blessed Virgin Mary

    O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, you are our mother, protector and help of the entire human race.  We honor you.  We accept you as the mother and protector of our family.  Protect us and our homes from all dangers, especially from evil spirits, fire, floods, lightning, storms, earthquakes, road accidents, thieves, and evil men.  All of us living in this house belongs to you.  Keep us safe from diseases and all dangers.  Help us to stay away from sin and to do God’s will in every sphere of our lives.  We consecrate ourselves totally to Jesus through your Immaculate Heart.  Amen.

  • Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows of Mary

    Opening Prayer:

    My God, I offer you this rosary for Your glory. I want to honor Your Holy Mother, the Blessed Virgin, by meditating upon and sharing in her suffering.

    O my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, trusting in Your infinite love I turn to you for forgiveness and mercy. I am truly sorry for the pains You suffered in your most bitter Passion because of my sins. For love of You, and before Your holy presence, I utterly renounce and forsake all the sins of my whole life. I ask pardon from You with all my heart. I firmly resolve to amend my life and would rather die than offend You again.

    O Blessed Virgin Mary, you are our tender Mother and the refuge of sinners. I run to you with confidence and love. Hide me under your mantle of love and protection. As I meditate upon the swords of sorrow that pierced your Immaculate Heart, obtain for me the forgiveness of my sins and the grace to live a life of heroic holiness.

    Blessed Mother, I unite my heart to yours and offer this rosary for young people: for their purity and growth in holiness, their vocational discernment, and their courage in following Christ.

    [I also pray for the following particular intentions…]

    V. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Your love.
    R. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth.

    After each set of seven Hail Mary:
    Holy Mother hear my prayers, and renew in my heart each wound of Jesus my Savior.

    Closing Prayers
    O Mary, you truly became the Queen of all martyrs as these seven bitter swords of sorrow pierced your Immaculate Heart! By the merits of your tearful distress obtain for us and for all sinners the graces of perfect contrition and conversion. Help us always, dear Mother, to imitate you by taking up our crosses and following Jesus with limitless love and generosity. Amen.

    Repeat three times:
    Mary, who was conceived without sin and who suffered for us, pray for us.

  • Memorare

    (Prayer by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux)

    Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother; to you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

  • Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Before Mass

    O most blessed Virgin Mary, mother most loving and most merciful, I, a miserable and unworthy sinner come before thee, with the heartfelt prayer, that of thy loving kindness thou wouldst vouchsafe graciously to be near me and all who throughout the whole Church are to receive the body and blood of thy Son this day, even as thou wert near thy most dear Son as He hung bleeding on the cross, that, aided by thy gracious help, we may worthily offer up a pure and acceptable sacrifice in the sight of the holy and undivided Trinity.
    Amen.

  • Consecration to Our Lady of Sorrows

    Most holy Virgin and Queen of Martyrs,
    Mary, would that I could be in Heaven,
    there to contemplate the honors rendered to thee
    by the Most Holy Trinity
    and by the whole Heavenly Court!
    But since I am still a pilgrim in this vale of tears,
    receive from me, thy unworthy servant and a poor sinner,
    the most sincere homage
    and the most perfect act of vassalage
    a human creature can offer thee.
    In thy Immaculate Heart,
    pierced with so many swords of sorrow,
    I place today my poor soul forever;
    receive me as a partaker in thy dolors,
    and never suffer that I should depart from that Cross
    on which thy only begotten Son expired for me.
    With thee, O Mary,
    I will endure all the sufferings,
    contradictions, infirmities,
    with which it will please thy Divine Son
    to visit me in this life.
    All of them I offer to thee,
    in memory of the Dolors
    which thou didst suffer during thy life,
    that every thought of my mind,
    every beating of my heart
    may henceforward be an act of compassion to thy Sorrows,
    and of complacency for the glory
    thou now enjoy in Heaven.
    Since then, O Dear Mother,
    I now compassionate thy Dolors,
    and rejoice in seeing thee glorified,
    do thou also have compassion on me,
    and reconcile me to thy Son Jesus,
    that I may become thy true and loyal son (daughter);
    come on my last day and assist me in my last agony,
    even as thou wert present at the Agony of thy Divine Son Jesus,
    that from this painful exile I may go to Heaven,
    there to be made partaker of thy glory.  Amen.

  • Totally Yours

    (Prayer composed by Saint Maximilian Kolbe and used by Saint John Paul II for Daily Consecration)

    Immaculate Conception, Mary, my Mother.
    Live in me. Act in me. Speak in and through me.
    Think your thoughts in my mind.
    Love, through my heart.
    Give me your dispositions and feelings.
    Teach, lead and guide me to Jesus.
    Correct, enlighten and expand
    my thoughts and behavior.
    Possess my soul. Take over
    my entire personality and life.
    Replace it with yourself.
    Incline me to constant adoration
    and thanksgiving.
    Pray in me and through me.
    Let me live in you and
    keep me in this union always.

  • A Prayer of Consecration to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

    O Mary, Queen and Mother of Carmel, I come today to consecrate myself to you, for my whole life is but a small return for the many graces and blessings that have come from God to me through your hands.

    Since you look with special kindness on those who wear your Scapular, I implore you to strengthen my weakness with your power, to enlighten the darkness of my mind with your wisdom, and to increase in me faith, hope and charity that I may repay each day my debt of humble homage to you.

    May your Scapular bring me your special protection in my daily struggle to be faithful to your divine son and to you. May it separate me from all that is sinful in life and remind me constantly of my duty to imitate your virtues. From now on, I shall strive to live in God’s presence, and offer all to Jesus through you.

    Dearest Mother, support me by your never-failing love and lead me to paradise through the merits of Christ and your own intercession.

    Amen.

  • Prayer to Our Blessed Mother

    Take my hand, O Blessed Mother,
    Hold me firmly lest I fall;
    I am nervous when I’m walking,
    And to thee I humbly call.
    Guide me over every crossing,
    Watch me when I’m on the stairs;
    Let me know you are beside me,
    Listen to my fervent prayers.
    Bring me to my destination
    Safely every single day;
    Help me with each undertaking,
    As the hours pass away.
    And when evening falls upon us,
    And I fear to be alone,
    Take my hand, O blessed Mother,
    Once again, and lead me home.

  • Salve Regina (Hail Holy Queen)

    Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

  • Magnificat

    My soul magnifies the Lord
    And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior;
    Because He has regarded the lowliness of His handmaid;
    For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed;
    Because He who is mighty has done great things for me,
    and holy is His name;
    And His mercy is from generation to generation
    on those who fear Him.
    He has shown might with His arm,
    He has scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
    He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
    and has exalted the lowly.
    He has filled the hungry with good things,
    and the rich He has sent away empty.
    He has given help to Israel, his servant, mindful of His mercy
    Even as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity forever.
