Marian Prayers

  • Prayer to Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Mother of Perpetual Help, with the greatest confidence we come before your holy picture to be inspired by the example of your life.

We think of you at that moment when, full of faith and trust, you accepted God’s call to be the mother of his Son. Help us, your children, to accept with joy our own calling in life.

When you learned that your cousin Elizabeth was in need, you immediately went to serve her and offer your help. Help us, like you, to be concerned for others.

We think of you, Mother, at the foot of the Cross. Your heart must have bled to see your Son in agony. But your joy was great when he rose from the dead, victorious over the powers of evil.

Mother of Sorrows, help us through the trials and disappointments of life. Help us not to lose heart. May we share with you and your Son the joy of having courageously faced up to all the challenges of life. Amen.

  • Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows of Mary

In the name of The Father, and The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Amen.

    Opening Prayer:
My God, I offer You this Rosary for Your glory, so I can honor your Holy Mother, the Blessed Virgin, so I can share and meditate upon her suffering. I humbly beg you to give me true repentance for all my sins. Give me wisdom and humility, so that I may receive all the indulgences contained in this prayer.

    Act of Contrition:
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend You, my God, You Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

  • Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

  • Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary before Mass

O most blessed Virgin Mary, mother most loving and most merciful, I, a miserable and unworthy sinner, come before thee, with this heartfelt prayer, that of thy loving kindness thou wouldst vouchsafe graciously to be near me and all who throughout the whole Church are to receive the body and blood of thy Son this day, even as thou wert near thy most dear Son as He hung bleeding on the cross, that, aided by thy gracious help, we may worthily offer up a pure and acceptable sacrifice in the sight of the holy and undivided Trinity. Amen.

  • Consecration to Our Lady of Sorrows

Most holy Virgin and Queen of Martyrs, Mary, would that I could be in Heaven, there to contemplate the honors rendered to thee by the Most Holy Trinity and by the whole Heavenly Court! But since I am still a pilgrim in this vale of tears, receive from me, thy unworthy servant and a poor sinner, the most sincere homage and the most perfect act of vassalage a human creature can offer thee. In thy Immaculate Heart, pierced with so many swords of sorrow, I place today my poor soul forever; receive me as a partaker in thy dolors, and never suffer that I should depart from that Cross on which thy only begotten Son expired for me. With thee, O Mary, I will endure all the sufferings, contradictions, infirmities, with which it will please thy Divine Son to visit me in this life. All of them I offer to thee, in memory of the Dolors which thou didst suffer during thy life, that every thought of my mind, every beating of my heart may henceforward be an act of compassion to thy Sorrows, and of complacency for the glory thou now enjoyest in Heaven. Since then, O Dear Mother, I now compassionate thy Dolors, and rejoice in seeing thee glorified, do thou also have compassion on me, and reconcile me to thy Son Jesus, that I may become thy true and loyal son (daughter); come on my last day and assist me in my last agony, even as thou wert present at the Agony of thy Divine Son Jesus, that from this painful exile I may go to Heaven, there to be made partaker of thy glory. Amen.

  • Totally Yours

(Prayer composed by Saint Maximilian Kolbe and used by Saint John Paul II for Daily Consecration)

    Immaculate Conception, Mary my Mother,
Live in me, act in me,
Speak in me and through me,
Think your thoughts in my mind,
    Love through my heart,
Give me your dispositions and feelings,
Teach, lead me, and guide me to Jesus,
Correct, enlighten and expand my thoughts and behavior,
    Possess my soul,
Take over my entire personality and life, replace it with Yourself,
    Incline me to constant adoration,
Pray in me and through me,
Let me live in you and keep me in this union always.

  • A Prayer of Consecration to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

O Mary, Queen and Mother of Carmel, I come today to consecrate myself to you, for my whole life is but a small return for the many graces and blessings that have come from God to me through your hands.

Since you look with special kindness on those who wear your Scapular, I implore you to strengthen my weakness with your power, to enlighten the darkness of my mind with your wisdom, and to increase in me faith, hope, and charity that I may repay each day my debt of humble homage to you.

May your Scapular bring me your special protection in my daily struggle to be faithful to your divine son and to you. May it separate me from all that is sinful in life and remind me constantly of my duty to imitate your virtues. From now on, I shall strive to live in God’s presence, and offer all to Jesus through you.

Dearest Mother, support me by your never-failing love, and lead me to paradise through the merits of Christ and your own intercession. Amen.

  • Prayer to Our Blessed Mother

Take my hand, O Blessed Mother,
    Hold me firmly lest I fall;
I am nervous when I’m walking,
And to thee I humbly call.
    Guide me over every crossing,
    Watch me when I’m on the stairs;
Let me know you are beside me,
    Listen[SS1] to my fervent prayers.
    Bring me to my destination
    Safely every single day;
    Help me with each undertaking,
    As the hours pass away.
And when evening falls upon us,
And I fear to be alone,
Take my hand, O blessed Mother,
Once again, and lead me home.

  • Magnificat

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for He has looked with favor on His lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
    and holy is His Name.

He has mercy on those who fear Him in every generation.
He has shown the strength of His arm,
He has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich He has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of His servant Israel
for He remembered His promise of mercy,
the promise He made to our fathers,
to Abraham and His children forever.
